| ArgyleDSL Premium Member 2003-May-21 8:57 pm Looking for a job? train operators examFrom the Daily News: The starting salary for these positions is $23.85 per hour. The Department of Citywide Administrative Services is accepting applications from the general public for these positions, but eligible New York City Transit employees also may take the exam as a promotional test. Names on the promotion list will be considered first in the hiring process. More than 13,000 outside candidates took the train operator exam when it was first offered as an open competitive exam three years ago. Nearly 500 candidates have been hired from that list, and transit officials said another 100 will be hired from the list by the end of this year. Applications for this and other exams with the New York City Transit, including bus maintainer group B, are available at the Department of Citywide Administrative Services Applications Section, at 18 Washington St. in Manhattan. Applications also can be downloaded from the department Web site: www.nyc.gov/dcas." |

Maggs | Maggs Premium Member 2003-May-22 4:50 pm Not Really.... its an open competitive exam. If you have the skills and the physical ability they will take you. I hate when people just say that's discrimination so easily. You see the rank and file of the MTA. They don't discriminate. |

The ad wasn't specifically aimed at high school students. In fact, it seems to me that it's more aimed at those who have been out of school for a bit. It just says that you need to have a HS diploma or its equivalent plus work experience. Many adults have that. Simply put, if you have a HS diploma or its equivalent but have no work experience, you don't qualify. Most jobs have requirements. This is no different. |

| y2julio to ArgyleDSL Premium Member 2003-May-23 6:29 pm so where would a HS graduate get said experience? working for other transit company's??? |
· actions · 2003-May-23 6:29 pm · | |
| JSY Premium Member 2003-May-23 11:53 pm "Said experience" is "five years of full-time, paid, satisfactory work experience." It doesn't say anything about it having to do with transit. They are looking for someone who has worked satisfactorily, and not someone who's looking for their first job. Many jobs do this. You really don't understand it, do you. Sorry - I tried to make it as simple as possible. |
